HOW DO WE GET THESE THERAPEUTIC EFFECTS?

To achieve the aforementioned therapeutic effects, the cannabinoids must first be decarboxylated. This process consists of making the cannabinoids go from their acidic state (THCA, CBDA, CBGA...) to their activated form (THC, CBD, CBG...). In this way, they affect the CB1, CB2 and 5Ht1A receptors that make up the endocannabinoid system.

To decarboxylate cannabinoids, they undergo a heating process, carried out at different times, depending on the way they are consumed:

By inhalation: The decarboxylation process occurs on the fly, with the heat of the fire that the tip of the cigarette gives off or with the heat produced by the resistances of the vaporizers.

Sublingual or ingested consumption: Cannabinoids must be decarboxylated beforehand in order to enjoy their therapeutic and/or recreational effects.

WHAT ARE THE ROUTES OF ADMINISTRATION OF CBD?

Cannabis is a natural substance that acts differently in each person. It is recommended to start with low doses and increase them moderately until you find your correct dose that achieves the desired effects (pain relief, less anxiety, more relaxed muscles, better sleep...).

There are several ways to administer CBD, depending on each pathology, therapeutic use and desired effect:

Inhaled route: Very intense effect, short duration (2 hours approx). The lungs are the fastest exchanger in the body, in less than 10 minutes the cannabinoids come into contact with the blood. It is the most appropriate route of administration if a rapid effect is sought in a situation of pain, need for relaxation, falling asleep…. Given the short duration of its effects, 6/8 daily doses will be needed to cover a full day. It is recommended to inhale through vaporizers or electronic cigarettes that are less harmful to our body, thus avoiding the negative effects that "smoking" produces on health.

Sublingual route: Recommended route of administration to combat chronic pain, stimulate appetite, reduce nausea, etc... Its effects remain in the body for approximately 6 hours, only three doses being necessary to cover the entire day. The maximum recommended dose is one dose every 4-6 hours. Many people have enough with one shot every 12 hours. Some only take it before bed, even in some cases it is not necessary to take it daily. Each person must find the dose that suits their situation. It is recommended to start with 1-2 sublingual drops and gradually increase the dose, if necessary, until the desired effect is achieved. Regarding the method of administration: Pour the drops directly under the tongue (or with the help of a spoon if it is easier for you to count the drops). Keep them for about a minute and swallow the rest. If you don't like the taste it leaves in your mouth, you can eat something once you've swallowed the oil.

Cutaneous route: Appropriate route of administration to achieve analgesic effects in a localized area. It does not produce psychoactive effects because the cannabinoids do not cross the skin or muscles and do not reach the bloodstream.

Ingested route: it is the least used route if we want to enjoy its therapeutic effects. This is because it can take from 45 minutes to 2 hours (depending on the person) for us to start noticing its effects, so it is very common to make mistakes when dosing the shots. On many occasions you can fall short or go overboard with the quantities.

Rectal and vaginal route: It is the most appropriate route to treat gastrointestinal and vaginal problems. It produces a strong local analgesic and anti-inflammatory effect due to the absorption of cannabinoids by the mucous membranes. Its psychoactive effects are minimal compared to other forms of administration (except the cutaneous route that does not have any psychoactive effect).

CBD, consumed once a day, can be used as preventive medicine due to its neuroprotective properties, helping to delay the onset of neurodegenerative diseases or slowing down their development.

Experts say that CBD is a cannabinoid that is well tolerated. Its side effects are mild even at doses higher than those that our body can assimilate correctly (feeling of tiredness, dry mouth, slight dizziness, drowsiness and headaches), the effects disappearing in a short period of time (4-6 hours as usual). maximum). The effects disappear completely by suspending the administration or reducing the dose in the next dose.
